What’s New In The Payara Platform December 2024 Release?

The Payara Platform December releases bring exciting updates to developers and enterprises, marking significant progress toward the future of application server technology. With key advancements across all editions, this release cycle includes the much-anticipated Payara Platform Community 7 Alpha 3, introducing a ground-breaking step toward Jakarta EE 11 support. Payara 7 Alpha 3: Advancing Towards Jakarta EE 11

The highlight of this release cycle is Payara Platform Community 7 Alpha 3, which introduces full implementation of the Jakarta Security specification. This addition marks another important step in our journey towards complete Jakarta EE 11 support, strengthening the security foundation of our next-generation application server. This release builds on Payara’s commitment to staying ahead in the world of Jakarta EE, offering an advanced environment for developers eager to future-proof their applications.

Updates Across the Payara Platform

Payara Platform Community 6.2024.12, Enterprise 6.21.0 and Enterprise 5.70.0 all received meaningful updates. Most notably, the Community edition now includes Jakarta EE MVC 2.1 API support with Eclipse Krazo 3.0.1 as the implementation, expanding options for developers building modern web applications using the Model-View-Controller pattern.

Key Bug Fixes

In our latest release, we addressed several important stability issues:

  • Fixed deployment inconsistencies when instances are shared across multiple groups
  • Resolved a ClassCastException in Jakarta Validation ConstraintViolation deserialization
  • Fixed a Payara Micro NPE issue in the WebappClassLoader
  • Corrected a NullPointerException in the add-instance-to-deployment-group command

Component Updates

All Payara Platform editions received notable upgrades to their core components:

  • Jakarta XML Binding API updated to 4.0.2
  • JLine version bumped to 3.27.1
  • Nimbus JOSE JWT upgraded to 9.47
  • Reactor Core moved to 3.7.0
  • Commons IO updated to 2.18.0
  • Eclipse Persistence ASM upgraded to 9.7.1
  • Kotlin stdlib updated to 2.1.0
  • Jackson BOM moved to 2.18.2

Tooling Ecosystem

In the Payara Platform tooling ecosystem, we released new versions of our IDE plugins to enhance the development experience. Our VSCode extension has been updated to version 1.5.0 with an improved starter archetype, while IntelliJ users can now enjoy version 1.12.0, compatible with IntelliJ 2024.3.1.
