We're happy to announce the latest release of the Payara Platform, bringing significant improvements and updates across our Community and Enterprise editions (download Payara Enterprise trial here). This release focuses on enhancing security, improving performance, and upgrading key components to ensure our users have access to the most up-to-date and secure application server environment.

What's New Across All Editions

Security Enhancements

A critical security fix has been implemented across all editions of the Payara Platform:

  • Payload Injection Attack Prevention: We've addressed a vulnerability in the Management REST interface, significantly improving the overall security of the platform.

Performance Improvements

  • EclipseLink WriteLockManager Enhancement: We've integrated EclipseLink's interruption enhancements to the WriteLockManager, which should lead to improved performance in database operations.

Bug Fixes

  • Deployment Group Start Issue Resolved: Fixed an issue where the asadmin command start-deployment-group was throwing a remote failure.
  • Arquillian Connector Reference Fix: Corrected an invalid reference to the payara-micro-remote Arquillian Connector.

Component Upgrades

All editions have received several component upgrades to ensure you're working with the latest stable versions:

  • Apache Ant upgraded to 1.10.15
  • SnakeYAML upgraded to 2.3
  • Reactor Core upgraded to 3.6.10
  • JLine upgraded to 3.27.0
  • Commons IO upgraded to 2.17.0
  • JNA upgraded to 5.15.0

Payara Platform Enterprise 5.68.0

We've also included a specific bug fix for users of our Enterprise 5.x edition:

  • Resolved an issue with setting javax.faces.ENABLE_WEBSOCKET_ENDPOINT under JDK 8 (FISH-8828).
  • The Diagnostics Tool for this edition has been upgraded to version 1.1.

Payara VSCode Plugin 1.4.0 Release

We're also happy to announce the release of Payara VSCode Plugin version 1.4.0, bringing important improvements to enhance your development experience with Payara in Visual Studio Code.

Key Enhancements

  1. Improved Payara Micro Instance Launching: We've resolved an issue where environmental variables weren't being passed correctly when starting a Payara Micro instance. This fix ensures a smoother and more reliable process when launching Payara Micro from within VSCode.
  2. Enhanced Type Compatibility: We've addressed a conflict arising from properties with different datatypes in the plugin's codebase. This resolution improves the overall stability and performance of the plugin.

These updates reflect our commitment to continuously improving our tooling ecosystem, making it easier for developers to work with Payara in their preferred IDE.

We encourage all VSCode users working with Payara to update to this latest version to take advantage of these improvements. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions for future enhancements.

Conclusion

This release demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a secure, performant, and up-to-date application server across all editions of the Payara Platform and our tooling ecosystem. We encourage all users to upgrade to these latest versions to benefit from the security enhancements, performance improvements, and latest component updates.
