Quickly Configure a Database Connection with Payara Cloud

Payara Cloud (launching soon!) is the next generation of cloud-native application runtime, offering an easier way to run your Jakarta EE applications on the cloud. It will take any web application that follows the Jakarta Web profile specification and run it in a containerized Payara Micro instance - and all you need to do is upload your WAR file and click deploy.

Unlike building an application server deployment on a Cloud Infrastructure as a Service or on raw Kubernetes, Payara Cloud takes care of provisioning infrastructure, installation, configuration, deployment, and scaling of your application to eliminate costs and reduce the risks of managing Jakarta EE application servers on Cloud.

If your application connects to a database, Payara Cloud will simplify the configuration process.

When you upload your WAR file to Payara Cloud it will automatically detect if your application has a persistence.xml defined. If it does, it knows you want to configure a connection to a database and will generate four text boxes for you to fill in the connection details. To establish the connection to the database, you will enter:

  • JDBC URL
  • Datasource Class
  • Username and password (optional)

And that’s it! Your application is successfully connected to the database. Watch the video to see how to configure your database in Payara Cloud.
